Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians

Camilla Zimmermann, 2019 Eduardo Bruera Award in Palliative Medicine
This award is named in honour of Dr. Eduardo Bruera and was created to recognize contributions in the field of Palliative Care. It is a token of the esteem in which the recipient is held by their peers and by the members of the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians.

Rayfel Schneider, Council Award

Ontario HIV Treatment Network

Mario Ostrowski, Endgame Research Funding Award 
This funding program supports people and projects (including innovative, discovery-based and investigator-driven game changing research) that have the potential to meet the needs of populations in Ontario most affected by HIV; drive changes in policy and practice across the HIV prevention, engagement, and care cascade; lead to more integrated health and social services; identify effective ways to address the social determinants that have a negative impact on the health of communities most affected by HIV; contribute to a rapid learning HIV health and social system.

Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO)

University of Toronto Dermatology Program, Residency Program Excellence Award
The PARO Residency Program Excellence Award was created to recognize those programs that have consistently provided an exceptionally positive and rewarding experience to their residents, while producing physicians who are expertly trained to deal with the challenges in their upcoming careers.

SickKids Research Institute

Rae Yeung and Ron Laxer, Janet Rossant Research Innovation Prize
This award is in honour of interdisciplinary research that was published in the April 3, 2017 issue of Nature Communications, with findings that show ARPC1B deficiency in humans results in defective Arp2/3 actin filament branching that is associated with multisystem disease including platelet abnormalities, cutaneous vasculitis, eosinophilia and predisposition to inflammatory diseases.

Carolina Barnett-Tapia, Neurofibromatosis Research Program (NFRP) New Investigator Award-Early Stage Investigator 
The Department of Defense Neurofibromatosis research program was initiated in 1996 to provide support for research of exceptional scientific merit that promotes the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of neurofibromatosis (NF) including NF type 1 (NF1) and type 2 (NF2) and schwannomatosis. In the funded project, we will develop a method to identify NF1 patients from administrative data to study incidence, prevalence, mortality, and health utilization patterns. Our findings will help to plan healthcare access and delivery for individuals with NF1.
